We asked our students and here is what they shared with us.
Attending a Full-Time CIMBA MBA means compressing several different things in a relatively short amount of time: leadership training, 17 courses, monthly individual and team coaching sessions, neuroscience, negotiations, public speaking, PSDM KT workshops, and a consulting project.
In other words, while delivering knowledge, the CIMBA Full-Time MBA program also focuses on your personal development and your interpersonal skills, adding value to the whole experience.
Doing all of this in only 11 months helps you to stay focused on your goal, devoting yourself to your personal growth and completing intense work. Nevertheless, getting a Full-Time MBA means also being constantly surrounded by classmates and frequently working in a team, so that you’ll never feel alone. Indeed, achieving an MBA in one year allows you to really immerse yourself in the culture of the program and overcome all the steps above, by facing the weekly assignments within an international team of students.
This team building opportunity allows you to improve on your skills while bonding with your classmates, creating long-lasting relationships and making the subjects more understandable with the collaboration of multiple perspectives.
Also, through the consulting project, each team gets to know and work for an Italian company, where the students have the opportunity to put in practice what they learned over the previous month, knowing that if they play their cards right, they could have a job once they complete the program.
Finally, from a financial perspective, the CIMBA MBA, being 11 months, is more affordable because you potentially “lose” only one year of salary, instead of two
Originally from the Veneto region, Marco is now based in HK, working as a General Manager Apac for Brioni.
We are excited to share his journey: from a CIMBA MBA student to a general manager position in an international company!
How did you get started on your current career path?
Professionally everything started with CIMBA: within the alumni network, I got in contact with a student who was working in Switzerland for Hugo Boss. After the experience with Hugo Boss, I moved to Milan for Ermenegildo Zegna. Following that, to Shanghai for Sergio Rossi and Bottega Veneta. Finally, I landed in HK for Brioni.
I believe that if I am working abroad now, for 6 years already, is also the result of the international teamwork I have done during my MBA.
Reminiscences of your experience in the CIMBA program.
What are some of the things that changed your way of thinking?
The CIMBA program sets itself precisely as a crossroad between a selected university school program and a business environment on which teamwork makes the difference for the final outcome. For me, CIMBA was an inspiring yet challenging year. The key takeaway for me, besides the amazing people I met, was realizing how much challenges can shape you.
What advice would you give to a current or prospective student?
I would suggest embracing the program both on a professional level as well as a personal developmental one.
The level of courses and teachers mixed with a truly Italian landscape and culture makes CIMBA a unique MBA experience that will always be remembered.
On October 29th, 2019, our full-Time MBA students dived deep into their team coaching journey with our ICF Professional Certified Coach Katiuscia Baggio, who challenged and supported them in pursuing the best version of themselves. From the first MBA Team Coaching Session, they enjoyed four monthly meetings as a class to build the foundation of the team, creating a mission statement and exploring the rules they wanted to commit in order to deepen their connections.
“To bring out the best in each other, we ARE” has been their mission statement for their past, present, and future in CIMBA!
The beginning of the three different consulting projects marked the start of a new part of the journey.
Our students, divided into three groups, keeping in mind their team mission statement while shifting their focus towards their own consulting teams. After their first face-to-face meeting, Katiuscia promptly converted the meetings into online coaching sessions to keep on developing the students into the best people they can be in response to COVID-19 outbreak. Throughout these meetings, our MBAs had the opportunity to explore what was happening within the consulting teams from a relationship point of view, as well as to practice their leadership and facilitation skills.
They are almost at the end of their journey and we took the opportunity to ask them for their key takeaways, their best moments, and some comments on their experience:
“The team coaching was very useful for me because it helped each member of the team to better voice their opinions and collaborate on their ideas.” Jaime
“The team coaching was a good way to set common goals and to get closer to my classmates. It was a great way to practice giving and receiving feedback, and to know what your peers really think about you, providing motivation to improve.” Mattia
“Team coaching was the most exciting experience I’ve ever had. It is very difficult in real life to have the possibility to connect to your peers on this level. It is a great training ground to build the skills to establish an effective, trustworthy bond with coworkers”. Simone
“The team coaching session has been an extremely valuable opportunity to know my classmates and to connect with them, as well as to learn powerful tools that will make the difference in the next team-activity I’ll dive deep into.” Alessandra
“Team coaching has been an eye-opener and a reaffirmation of the fact that together we achieve more. The best moment has been to experience the diversity in our personalities when honing in on the team’s mission statement.” Supriya
Our MBAs really challenged themselves during the consulting journey and Katiuscia did a great job in supporting their leadership skill development! They successfully implemented new cognitive and behavioral changes and investigated their personality types, as well as talents through tests and assessments in order to strengthen their leadership skills.
And this opportunity will for surely provided valuable fundation for their future!
Finally, after two months of lockdown, things have started to get more relaxed and we are
slowly getting back to our normal lives. Here at CIMBA, our full-time MBA students believe that,
even without Covid-19, they would have been on a lockdown anyways to work for their consulting
Joking aside, the full-time consulting project is a very intense, three-month project, where our students can put everything they learn during the MBA into practice. They are assigned as consultants to a company, and they collaborate with the employees to solve a problem the company has. Specifically, this year, the three projects have been very exciting and challenging: one for the digital transformation of a company, one about a machine for a new renewable energy technology, and one about the future of nuclear energy.
Let’s hear from them about how they feel at the end of this experience:
“The consulting project was a great way to test how much I learned during this MBA. At the beginning, it was quite hard because you needed to understand your group’s functions, how the company works, and you need to get familiar with an industry that most likely you don’t know anything about. Once the dynamics and the roles in our group became clear, and we understood how to support each other, the project became enjoyable and a great learning experience. It is a great way to put into practice your key learnings. It tests how you react under stress and it gave you quite a lot of satisfaction when the company tells you that they want to implement some of our recommendations.” Mattia
“As a recent graduate with little work experience, taking part in the consulting project while getting my MBA has been a great opportunity to challenge myself while diving deeply into my first job experience in a business field I didn’t know anything about. It hasn’t always been easy. I got out of my comfort zone and dedicated myself to an interesting digital transformation project. I feel grateful for the first the chance to focus on and learn from it, as well as for the client satisfaction after my presentation.” Alessandra
“Interesting experience which allowed me to look into a topic which was out of my comfort zone, applying all the concepts learned through the MBA.” Alessandro
“The consulting project was something new for me! I have never worked in that field before, and never with those concepts. For me, it was a great learning experience and something that will help me in the future.” Jaime
“The consulting project has been a great chance to get in contact with the industry environment and practice my new skillset. The challenge was twofold: working on a topic totally outside my background and doing it within a team where different experiences and mindsets come together. It's been extremely valuable, as I could improve my ability as a team player. I will be able to use the knowledge I built for future projects in my career. At the end of the project, the best reward is the appreciation of the client and the feeling of having done a good job”. Simone
The MBA class really valued the role the consulting projects played in their leadership development journey. These projects were not easy tasks. They came with many challenges and with many hours of hard work as you would expect from a real-world project. It is great fundamental preparation for our MBA students in finding their paths to their next jobs.
It was a great way to shape students to be future leaders!
